The opportunity
Due to successful project expansion, our client are a leading engineering firm driving the energy transition in the UK, seeking an experienced Planning Engineer driven by a culture that promotes personal development and ensures maximum employee safety.

Our client operates a framework Contract with an annual turnover of circa £14M for a blue-chip customer utilising the NEC4 Contract.

The role
As a Planning Engineer, you will be reporting to the Framework Project Manager where you will be responsible for providing programmes of work for projects within the framework assigned to you by the portfolio planner.

Programmes that are produced will be to control projects to provide accurate management information, in a consistent clear format, to enable, encourage and promote informed decisions at the earliest opportunity and to monitor their overall effectiveness against the original project baseline programme.

4 days per week (1 day from home permitted)
40 hours per week
£50-55k per annum (possibly flexible for outstanding candidates)

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Preparation, submission of Tender Programmes:
  • Co-ordination with the Design Manager, Project Designers and Estimating Department to ensure timely submission of tender packages as defined in the Contract Data supplied by the client’s Project Manager
  • This will include all aspects of the project for a Design & Build programme as required by the Framework Contract and the NEC ECC Contract.
  • Preparation & submission of Construction Programmes
  • Liaise with client’s representative to discuss and agree the level and content of the programme i.e. areas of work, work packages, access and completion dates and any other key dates / milestones required as defined within the Contract Data.
  • Liaise with the site Construction Operatives to produce a construction programme that reflects the build of the project.
  • Compile the Construction issue programme incorporating the above requirements.
  • Upon Acceptance of the Programme by the client, ensure the Project team and Construction Manager are issued with the relevant programme and information.
  • Progress / Performance Monitoring
  • Produce progress reports, S-Curves and productivity reports, utilising standard templates within Primavera P6.
  • Undertake weekly measures for the project as defined by the Work Package Manager in conjunction with the Quantity Surveyor to determine actual progress, productivity figures
  • Track expended hours utilising the bespoke database provided by the company.
  • Produce progress summary sheets to define progress vs schedule and not specific changes.
  • Attend site meetings as requested by the Work Package Manager.
  • Ensure that any additional work is integrated within the programme and highlight / detail any cause & effect to the project completion date.
  • Organise / chair internal planning meetings with the Work Package Manager and their project team to discuss any information raised from the progress report before submission to the client.

  • Be prepared to give guidance to Project team members where needed, ensure the project team is always fully informed of the current project status and offer improvement suggestions and innovation to Project Manager and other team members.
  • Be flexible and proactive in our approach as professional engineering specialist, to highlight potential problems before they occur and offer effective solutions to any technical or construction related problems.
  • Have a willingness to undertake an annual performance 1 to 1 review, to attend and have an active participation in all internal and external training courses.

You will have the following experience and qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a planning role is essential.
  • Full Driving License,
  • Ability to work on site, 4-days per week,
  • Relevant experience in the following Software Packages will be required:
    • Primavera P6
    • Microsoft Office, Excel, Word etc
    • Ideally you will have experience of dealing with multi-discipline projects.
    • It would also be a desirable for the candidate to have experience working on a NEC contract but not essential.
    • The role also relies on good verbal communication skills. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with clients to influence and negotiate timescales.
