Cable System Design Engineer

As they continue to expand their portfolio, they are seeking a talented Cable System Designer to join their dynamic team based in London.


Role Overview: As a Cable System Designer, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing high-voltage cable systems for a diverse range of projects, including HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) projects, offshore renewables, and long-distance subterranean transmission projects across Europe. Leveraging their expertise in cable engineering and design, they will support both existing projects and project tenders, contributing to the successful execution of multimillion-pound initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cable System Design:
    • Designing high-voltage cable systems, primarily 132kV, 256kV, 400kV, and 525kV, utilizing industry-standard software and tools.
    • Developing detailed cable route plans, considering project specifications, environmental factors, and regulatory requirements.
    • Performing cable sizing calculations, voltage drop analysis, and thermal assessments to ensure system reliability and performance.
  2. Technical Support:
    • Providing technical support to project teams and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from tender preparation to construction and commissioning.
    • Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients to address technical challenges and optimize cable system designs for specific project requirements.
  3. Project Tendering:
    • Contributing to the preparation of technical proposals and bid documents for new project tenders, including cost estimates, technical specifications, and design concepts.
    • Reviewing tender requirements and developing innovative solutions to differentiate our client's offerings and enhance their competitiveness in the market.
  4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations governing high-voltage cable design and installation.
    • Conducting design reviews and quality checks to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in designing high-voltage cable systems, with a focus on 132kV, 256kV, 400kV, and 525kV systems.
  • Proficiency in cable design software, such as PLS-CADD, CYMCAP, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with HVDC technologies, offshore windfarm projects, and subterranean transmission systems is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to solve complex technical problems and optimize cable designs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of European standards and regulations related to power transmission and renewable energy projects.
