Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Principal Engineering Manager/Civil Engineering Lead working with the structures and civil infrastructure team at the LLWR site in Cumbria. The role is flexible working with travel to the LLWR site in Cumbria every week.
The Principal Engineering Manager is a discipline focussed post responsible for planning and leading the development of design within a defined scope area and the integration and acceptance of that design across the programme.
The Principal Engineering Manager will initially cover the defined scope area outlined below across NWS’s portfolio of projects (LLWR, GDF and NSD):
Principal Engineering Manager - Lead Civil & Architecture Engineer
- Facilitate Responsible Engineer role to support projects and programmes.
- Act as technical authority for civil engineering.
- Management of asset inspection surveys.
- Provide civil engineering technical support to projects and programmes (LLWR, GDF and NSD).
- Oversee the development of architectural masterplans for the GDF and Associated Developments.
- Maintain configuration control of spatial site layouts across the programmes.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Aligned to organisational values and behaviours of action-orientated, ambitious, integrity, collaborative and inclusive.
- Chartered membership or fellowship status of relevant professional institution.
- Good first degree in relevant subject or equivalent qualification.
- Strong stakeholder / communications skills.
- Experienced with leading and managing a team of professional staff.
- Significant experience of one or more of the scope areas of: Transport Infrastructure, Construction and Ground Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture or Structural Engineering.
- Experience of the client to supply chain relationship and understanding of the Intelligent Customer role in delivery of major programmes.
- Experience of implementing an integrated design and safety approach (nuclear or non-nuclear safety, environmental, and security considerations).
- Engineering experience in the delivery of Capital Programmes with knowledge and skills transferrable to NWS’s portfolio of projects (LLWR, GDF and NSD).
- Experience in developing a scope of works and undertaking the specification, management, and oversight of contracts for design.
- Sound understanding of the CDM regulations and application in capital project delivery.
Desirable
- Significant engineering experience in the delivery of Major Capital Programmes with knowledge and skills transferrable to the LLWR, GDF or NSD programmes.
- Extensive experience in developing a scope of works and undertaking the specification, management, and oversight of contracts for design.
- Extensive experience in developing a scope of works and undertaking the specification, management, and oversight of contracts for design
- Develop awareness of all relevant legislation appropriate to scope of work and delivery.
- Sound understanding (or able to develop) of relevant health and safety legislation including CDM regulations.
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme professionally qualified person or similar card holder.
